Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 10, 2026
Legal Entity: Teton Software Inc. ("Algo School", "we", "us")
1. The short version
We are a small company that helps parents give their children better practice. We make money from subscriptions, not from data. We don't sell your information, we don't show advertising, and we don't run advertising or analytics trackers on the site.
We also collect as little about your child as we can get away with while still teaching them. Read on for exactly what that means.
2. How we handle children's information
This is the part parents care about most, so it comes first.
A child profile is deliberately thin. For each child, we store:
- the name you type for them — it can be a first name, a nickname, or anything you like; we treat it as a display alias and never verify it;
- their grade level;
- a hashed PIN, so they can sign in on a shared device (we store the hash, never the PIN itself);
- which tutor character they prefer.
We do not collect a child's email address, date of birth, legal name, photograph, phone number, address, or location. Children cannot create accounts, cannot invite anyone, cannot message another user, and have no way to make their work public. There is no child-to-child contact of any kind in Algo School.
Everything else we hold about a child is their schoolwork: the questions they were given, the answers they gave, whether those were right, what they've mastered, and their conversations with the AI tutor.
3. What we collect about you, the parent
- Account: your name, email address, and the Google account identifier you signed in with. We use Google Sign-In, so we never receive or store a password for your Algo School account.
- Settings: your timezone, your email preferences, and a hashed PIN for parent-only screens.
- Billing: your subscription and credit history, and identifiers issued by our payment processor. We never see or store your card number, security code, or bank details — those go directly to Stripe.
- Support and email: messages you send us, and records of the transactional emails we sent you.
4. Technical information
Our servers keep normal operational logs (request times, error traces, and similar) so the service can be run and debugged. We set a small number of cookies, and none of them track you across other websites:
- a sign-in cookie that keeps you (or your child, on the kids' screen) logged in;
- a this-device cookie that remembers which children have used this device, so they see their own avatar instead of typing their name each time.
We do not use advertising cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics.
5. How we use information
We use what we collect to:
- generate practice suited to your child and score what they submit;
- build the mastery picture that decides what they practise next;
- show you progress, diagnoses, and suggestions;
- run the AI tutor;
- take payment, manage subscriptions and credits, and send you service emails;
- keep the service secure and working, and meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your family's data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
6. Artificial intelligence, and what gets sent
Practice questions, hints, explanations, scoring, and the tutor's replies are produced by large language models operated by third-party AI providers. To do that, we send them what the model needs to respond:
- your child's display alias and grade level (so the tutor can address them and pitch the material);
- the question being worked on and the answer or question your child submits;
- relevant lesson context, such as what they've recently found difficult.
We do not send your payment details, your email address, or your child's PIN to any AI provider.
Today, that provider is Anthropic (the Claude models). If we add or change providers, we will update the list in section 7 before routing your family's data to them. AI providers process this information as our service providers, under the terms of our agreements with them.
7. Who else touches your data
We share information only with the service providers that make Algo School work. Each receives only what it needs:
- Anthropic — AI generation and tutoring (as described in section 6).
- Google — sign-in only. Google tells us your name, email, and an account identifier; we don't get access to anything else in your Google account.
- Stripe — payment processing. Your card details go to Stripe directly and are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
- Postmark — sending the service emails you receive from us.
- Amazon Web Services — hosting for stored files and encrypted backups, in the United States.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety or rights of a child, another person, or Algo School. If the business is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer with it, and this policy will continue to apply until you're told otherwise.
8. Where your data lives
Algo School is operated from the United States and your data is stored there. Traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted.
9. How long we keep it, and how to have it deleted
- While your account is open, we keep your family's data so progress and history stay intact.
- When you delete a child, we erase that child's learning records — their sessions, answers, scores, mastery, and tutor conversations — and remove the profile.
- Billing and payment records are kept even after a child is removed. They're your financial records as the account holder, and we're required to retain them.
- When you close your account, we delete your family's personal and learning data, other than records we must keep for legal, tax, or accounting reasons.
To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your family's data, email support@algoschool.app from your account address. We'll respond within 30 days.
10. Your choices
- You can view and edit your children's profiles and your account details at any time from your dashboard.
- You can unsubscribe from non-essential email using the link in any such message. Essential service email — receipts, security notices — continues while your account is open.
- You can delete a child, or your whole account, at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us and we'll honour what applies to you.
11. How we protect information
- Sign-in happens through Google, so there is no Algo School password to steal.
- PINs are stored only as bcrypt hashes, never as the digits themselves.
- Traffic is encrypted in transit.
- Our databases are not reachable from the public internet.
- Access to production systems is limited to the people who operate the service.
No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. If a breach affects your family's data, we will tell you.
12. Changes to this policy
When we make a material change, we publish a new version and ask you to accept it the next time you sign in. Previous versions stay on record exactly as you accepted them.
